DOWNLITE Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a compiled list of a few of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you don't see something here you are looking for, be sure to check out our other websites to get more information.

Does down cause allergies?
Most allergies and irritations are actually caused by dander and dust mites that penetrate into bedding, but because Down Lite uses only high thread count, tightly woven cotton fabric, dust mites and dander are not able to settle inside comforters or mattress toppers. Giving the bedding a quick shake will remove the irritants that can make you feel stuffy and itchy.

Down Lite’s strict cleaning standards remove 99% of all natural allergens from down clusters and feathers. There are a number of research studies that point to the fact that down bedding users actually are less likely to have allergen issues because of the nature of the high thread count fabrics we use to ensure no filling escapes the surface.

Can I Wash My Comforter and Blankets At Home?
All of our down blankets, even king sized ones, will easily fit in your home washing machine. Comforters larger than full size usually require an extra large washing machine, like those available at laundry mats. DO NOT WASH DOWN BEDDING PRODUCTS WITH REGULAR LAUNDRY DETERGENT.

How Do I Dry My Down Bedding?
Down bedding products should be dried slowly and thoroughly. Using too high a temperature setting can scorch the cotton fabric. Place bedding in the dryer for at least two full runs, shaking between cycles to make sure all parts of the bedding are being dried. Do not remove from the dryer until you are sure the item is dried. If you take it out of the dryer before bedding is fully dried bedding fill can mildew. These care instructions apply to: Down comforters, Down mattress pads, Down pillows, Feather pillows, Down and feather pillows, etc.

Would It Be Better To Dry Clean My Down Bedding?
The chemicals used in dry cleaning harm down and shorten its life. We DO NOT recommend dry cleaning ANY down product.

How Do I Clean My Down Alternative Bedding?
Down Alternative Products should be washed just like down bedding. Use a teaspoon of Dawn liquid dish soap and toss them in the washing machine at home. NEVER DRY CLEAN DOWN ALTERNATIVE BEDDING. Feather and Fiber beds can not be washed at home and if properly protected using a protector and sheet should not require cleaning.
